Ingrid Janíková, MD
REHABILITATION DOCTOR
My approach to the patient is holistic.
I perceive the disease as a deviation from balance at all levels: physical, emotional and mental.
I was lucky enough to work daily for 3 years watching the hands of the “guru” of manual medicine – Professor Karl Lewit, who taught me to emphasize the body as a whole system with its functions, perceive slight variations in tissue tension and use subtle myoskeletal techniques to optimize them. He taught me to follow his wisdom: “He who treats only where it hurts is lost.” That’s why I examine the patient’s feet and gait when he suffers from migraines, I’m interested in patient’s digestion when he is diagnosed disc herniation, I mobilize blockages of the thoracic spine when he/she suffers from arrhythmias.
I use acupuncture to treat pain and optimize energies on the meridians.
During five years of practice at the Rehabilitation Clinic at the Motol Teaching Hospital, I became acquainted with the concept of dynamic neuromuscular stabilization developed by Professor Kolář and I am further studying this concept. I specialize in the issue of the pelvic floor, which is related to pregnancy, postpartum and menopause. I find a connection between the patient’s mental state and functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system, so I attend psychosomatic courses and conferences. Often a well-chosen conversation or encouragement will help more than an injection.
Rehabilitation medicine and physiotherapy is a field that is developing very quickly. It’s for the curious, it’s incredibly creative and I enjoy it.
Based on my knowledge of internal medicine and rehabilitation specialization, my aim is to teach the patient how to perceive their body, handle their breath, actively recognize and “correct” a functional disorder before it turns into a mechanical, structural disorder. I try to guide the patient on the path to healing.
As part of a holistic approach to the patient, based on the knowledge of internal and rehabilitation specialization, I perform clinical examination, diagnosis and treatment of:
- Comprehensive analysis of the neuro-musculoskeletal system, differential diagnosis and physiotherapy strategy;
- Treatment of painful conditions of the musculoskeletal system, especially functional disorders (manual myoskeletal techniques – chiropractic, reflexology, acupuncture, osteopathy, medical injections, prescription of rational pharmacotherapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy);
- Through movement and other physiotherapeutic procedures I purposefully influence the functions of other systems, including mental functions (psychosomatic medicine);
- Specialization in lymphology;
- Pelvic floor problems (treatment of functional female sterility, incontinence, painful coccyx, dyspareunia), physiotherapy of pregnant women.
